Abstract

Research has shown that Nigeria’s intelligence is compromised and security is not effectively managed as terrorism, banditry, herdsmen-farmers violent attacks, kidnapping and militancy have increased in the last two decades. This study examines the factors militating intelligence gathering and security management in Nigeria. Social disorganization theory is used as the theoretical orientation. Data were sourced from content analysis of secondary sources, including books, journals, credible newspaper reports, internet sources and official documents from May 2015 to May 2023. Findings revealed primitive intelligence gathering methods, inadequate training, infiltration of security agencies, distrust, poor synergy and poor welfare of security personnel.
