Abstract

The thrust of this paper is to investigate the disruptive impacts of a neo-capitalist economic order that objectifies nature and humans in defence of the powerful forces of capital accumulation, the loss of the old self-sufficient social order in the age of capital, the dissolution of the cosmic order between human and non-human life forms, and the decadence of the money economy. Marxist theory was adopted as the theoretical model. Excerpts from six poems in The Eye of the Earth were selected as data. The study posits that illegal acquisition of wealth and corruption have affected societal values, norms and moral uprightness.
