Abstract

The continuous increase in the rate of unemployment in Nigeria precipitates inequality and, by extension, poverty. National development encompasses all attempts to improve the conditions of human existence in all ramifications. This study highlights the nature and causes of inequality, unemployment and poverty in Nigeria; establishes the nexus between inequality, unemployment, poverty and development; evaluates government efforts to eradicate these conditions; and determines the challenges faced by government in combating them. Data were collected from secondary sources and analysed through content analysis. The study recommends deliberate policies for job creation, investment in industrialization, agricultural support and programmes that address income inequality.
