Abstract

This research assesses women political participation in Gombe State from 1996 to 2011. It examines the nature of politics and factors determining access to politics, and assesses women’s political participation using selected political processes as yardsticks for measurement. The study adopts a historical approach involving data collection and data analysis. Data were drawn from books, journals, articles, annual reports, workshops, seminars, conference presentations and oral interviews with women who are active participants in politics, as well as women who are passive or non-partisan. The study examines women’s roles in party formation, party organs and electoral processes in Gombe State.
