Abstract

This study examined the consequences of economic crimes and corruption in Nigeria. It identified forms of corruption and types of economic crimes, assessed their extent, and examined the causes of corruption and economic crimes in Nigeria. The study used descriptive trend analysis and analysis of variance and adopted Modernization Game Theory. Findings indicate that the long reign of corruption in the country has negatively affected economic growth and deteriorated cultural values. The study recommends stronger use of anti-corruption agencies to investigate corrupt practices and impose appropriate sanctions, as well as re-orientation within Nigeria’s education system to restore national character and image.
