Abstract

This paper investigates the adverse effects of polygamy on children through an analysis of So Long a Letter. Grounded in socialist feminist theory, the study shows how gendered power imbalances, structural economic injustice, and cultural expectations combine to deny children consistent care, security, and dignity. Findings reveal that once a husband diverts attention and resources to a new marriage, the first wife often shoulders domestic and financial responsibilities. The study argues for structural reform within marital institutions and legal structures that protect children’s welfare.
