Abstract

This study examines the socio-economic implications of fuel subsidy removal in Nigeria from conceptual and theoretical perspectives. Using a qualitative research approach, historical analysis, and content analysis, the study reviews relevant literature to provide a clearer understanding of issues and challenges. Findings highlight significant economic and social consequences, including rising prices of essential goods, increased transportation costs, and financial constraints on households. The study recommends expansion of social protection programmes, including direct cash transfers, food aid, transportation subsidies, healthcare subsidies, targeted tax relief for low-income households, and tax incentives for affected businesses.
