Abstract

This study investigates the impact of Foreign Direct Investment on export growth in twelve African economies, comprising six oil and six non-oil economies, using panel cointegration and causality methods. The analysis confirms a stable long-run relationship and bidirectional causality between FDI and exports. Findings reveal heterogeneity across economies, with FDI having a stronger positive impact on export performance in non-oil economies than in oil-dependent ones. The study recommends that African countries prioritize policies that attract and sustain foreign capital in non-oil sectors to achieve longer-lasting effects on growth and development.
