Abstract

This study examines the relationship between promoting awareness of gender equality and preventing gender-based violence within the Accounting Department of Federal Polytechnic Bauchi, Nigeria. Framed by Social Learning Theory and critiqued by Learned Helplessness Theory, the study investigates how educational awareness influences GBV prevention. A cross-sectional quantitative survey design was used, with data collected from 266 students through structured questionnaires. Pearson correlation and linear regression revealed a statistically significant positive relationship between gender equality awareness and GBV prevention. The study recommends mandatory gender-sensitivity training, robust anti-GBV policies, and peer education programmes.
