Abstract

This study interrogates caste system among the Kamwe people of Michika Local Government Area of Adamawa State from 1999 to 2023. The study analyses a system that separates society into Ka-M’lai, the superior class, and Karighi, the inferior class, marked by social exclusion, restriction, segregation, marginalization, and discrimination. Primary and secondary sources of data were used, and the theory of intergroup relations guided the analysis. The study briefly examines the history of the Kamwe people and their location, structural organization, and cultural practice of caste system. Findings suggest that caste system among the Kamwe people may continue despite modernity.
