Abstract

This study assesses climate variability and its effects on pearl millet production in Karasuwa Local Government Area, Yobe State, Nigeria. Secondary data were obtained from NIMET Nguru station for mean rainfall and temperature from 1992 to 2022, while millet production data from 1992 to 2016 were obtained from the Agricultural Development Programme, Damaturu. Time series analysis and Pearson product moment correlation analysis were used. Findings reveal fluctuations in annual mean rainfall and seasonal mean temperature over the years and indicate a relationship between climate variability and millet production. The study recommends crop rotation, mixed farming, climate information, improved seeds, and urgent adaptation measures.
