Abstract

This study assesses the spatial distribution and effectiveness of World Bank-assisted community-driven development projects in Kogi State, Nigeria, from 2000 to 2009. A systematic random sampling technique was used to select 18 settlements across the senatorial districts. The study evaluates 182 completed projects, including infrastructure, education, health, roads, and water supply interventions. Descriptive statistics were used to analyse survey, interview, and field observation data. Findings show that educational and electrification projects were relatively successful, while healthcare, road, and water supply projects faced functionality challenges. The study recommends a strategic, equitable, and community-centred approach to future development programmes.
