Abstract

This study examines prosodic features, slangy expressions, and complex tones as tools for comic creation in selected Broda Shaggy comedy skits. The study adopts T. Alan Hall’s Distinctive Feature Theory to describe the acoustic features in selected speeches. It focuses on Shaggy’s accent, speech style, and use of complex tones to create humour in short video skits. Findings reveal that complex tones are strongly deployed as tools for creating humorous scenes and making comedy more appealing as entertainment. The study highlights how deviation from standard speech patterns contributes to comic effects.
