Abstract

This study examines land disputes and their causes in Patigi Emirate of Kwara State and proposes solutions from Islamic perspectives. It identifies unclear land boundaries, inheritance issues, abandoned land, ambiguity in land ownership, conflicts between the Land Use Act of 1978 and Islamic land law, and differences between native and immigrant customs as major contributors to disputes. The study uses fieldwork, library research, observation, and interviews. Findings indicate that clashes of norms and customs, lack of documents, lack of trustworthy historians, and ambiguous boundaries contribute to land disputes. The study aims to apply Islamic land law to stabilize peace through the emirate council.
