Abstract

This study explores biographical phenomenology and creative imagination in Wole Soyinka’s The Interpreters. The study adopts a psychoanalytic approach, emphasizing unconscious thoughts, memories, emotions, and desires as interpretive resources. It argues that The Interpreters is a complex novel whose plot style and intense characterization can be better understood through biographical and psychoanalytical perspectives. The paper views the novel as a psychopathographical text in which narrative techniques, linguistic choices, plot sequence, and characterization reflect Soyinka’s personal experiences and transform them into art.
