Abstract

This study examines the Gulf of Guinea in relation to Nigeria’s maritime security. It is motivated by the need for critical analysis of insecurity in the Gulf of Guinea, given the strategic importance of the region to Nigeria’s economic and security interests. The study relies on qualitative and descriptive analysis using secondary sources and adopts ungoverned space theory as its theoretical foundation. It concludes that maritime insecurity in the Gulf of Guinea poses serious threats to Nigeria’s national security and recommends stronger cooperation among Nigeria, regional partners, and international stakeholders.
