Abstract

This study explores Karl Maier’s This House Has Fallen using Marxist literary theory as an analytical framework. The work adopts a qualitative research methodology and focuses on the socio-economic and political circumstances affecting postcolonial Nigeria. The study observes that Karl Maier attributes Nigeria’s fallen political condition not only to military dictators but also to civilian political leaders. It argues that Nigeria’s political imbalance, socio-economic decline, ethno-religious tension, and cultural retrogression stem from corrupt and ineffective leadership.
