Abstract

This study examines general and specific expressions in Islamic jurisprudential principles and their effects on legal rulings, using Surah Al-Nisa as a model. It discusses the concept, forms, and types of general and specific wording and attempts to extract relevant models from legal texts. The study adopts descriptive, inductive, and applied methods. Findings show that disagreement among jurists over specification affects several legal rulings and that proper understanding of general and specific wording is central to the interpretation of Sharia texts.
