Abstract

This study investigates the impact of corporate governance on the financial performance of listed consumer goods companies in Nigeria. It focuses on board size, board independence, and board financial expertise and examines their influence on return on assets. The study adopts an ex-post facto research design and analyses data from sixteen listed consumer goods firms in Nigeria over eleven years from 2012 to 2022. Findings reveal that board size has a significant negative relationship with return on assets, while board independence and board financial expertise significantly contribute to improved financial performance.
