Abstract

This study explores electronic waste management practices and socio-economic outcomes in GSM Village, Abuja, Nigeria. Using exploratory qualitative methodology, the study conducted in-depth interviews with shop owners, customers, scavengers, and repair technicians. Findings reveal informal recycling, improper disposal, lack of awareness, inadequate infrastructure, and regulatory gaps. The study identifies both positive and negative socio-economic effects, including job creation and income generation for informal e-waste collectors, as well as health risks and environmental degradation. It recommends stronger regulatory frameworks, awareness, and improved e-waste management infrastructure.
