SOCIAL MEDIA IMPACT ON ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF STUDENTS IN UTME/JAMB 2025 IN ABEOKUTA SOUTH LGA

Abstract

The objective of the study examines the extent to which students within Abeokuta South LGA engage with social media, investigate the relationship between the frequency of social media use and academic performance in UTME/JAMB 2025 and also assess the influence of social media usage on students' study habits and academic preparation for UTME/JAMB. The study surveyed 400 respondents and found that social media usage has a detrimental impact on students' academic performance in the UTME/JAMB examination.. The study recommends that parents, teachers, school counselors, tutorial centers, ministry of education and local authorities should encourage learners to use social media for academic purposes and social media companies can also introduce Pop-up reminders and screen time trackers that help students manage their online behavior more responsibly.
