Abstract

The study examined banditry and its threat to economic development of Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State. Data were sourced from secondary and primary sources. Secondary sources were from existing literature on banditry and economic development, while the interview method was adopted as the main primary source of data from selected key informants within the study area and at the state level. A mixed method of analysis was adopted within the theoretical framework of securitization theory. The study concludes that banditry has become a serious problem affecting economic development in the area by rendering people unemployed, jobless, and vulnerable to hunger and starvation. The activities of bandits have also led to displacement of residents, abandoned farmland, closure of markets, loss of cattle and work bulls, loss of lives and properties, increased unemployment, and destruction of houses, properties, and farms.
