Abstract

Inefficient risk monitoring and inadequate financial management have highlighted the susceptibility of Nigerian banks to crisis. This study examines the effect of operational risk management on deposit money bank performance in Nigeria, as well as the moderating role of the operating environment. The participants were all deposit money banks in Nigeria publicly traded on the Nigerian Stock Exchange, with the sample limited to 12 banks. The study used STATA and panel regression. Findings show that operational risk management has a positive and substantial impact on the financial performance of publicly traded deposit money banks in Nigeria and that the operating environment moderates this impact.
