Abstract

The study investigates the implication of banditry on women and children in Kaduna State with particular focus on selected local government areas. Banditry in Kaduna State has features such as kidnapping, cattle rustling, indiscriminate attacks on communities, and destruction of lives and property. The study adopts the descriptive and narrative method of historical reconstruction, relying on primary and secondary sources. Findings reveal that the changing trend in banditry has direct links to the proliferation of small arms, large ungoverned forests and changes in technology. The activities of bandits have devastating effects on women and children, including socioeconomic disruption, gender-based sexual violence, mental and physical health implications, displacement and increase in out-of-school children.
