This research is a study on Islamic legal maxims and the understanding of Mukhtasaru Khalil and their relevance to legal studies in Nigeria. The objective of the research is to analyse the method of application of the Islamic legal maxims in Mukhtasar and how legal verdicts were extracted through applying these maxims. The study also discusses the relevance of the study to Islamic legal studies in Nigeria. Content analysis was adopted. Findings indicate that there are many applications of legal maxims in Mukhtasar and other classical books of Fiqh that can be traced by further research.
