Abstract

This study investigated the determinants of First Bank performance from 1992 to 2022, focusing on the impact of inflation rate, interest rate, exchange rate and unemployment rate on bank profitability measured by profit before taxation. The study used a quantitative research approach and multiple regression analysis. Data spanning three decades were collected and analysed. Results indicate that while interest rates do not significantly affect bank performance, exchange rates and unemployment rates exert significant influences. Inflation rates did not demonstrate a significant relationship with bank performance.
