Abstract

International migration is a global phenomenon that is growing in scope, complexity and impact. This paper examines several international migration theories and shows that many factors come together or separately to lead to international migration, making it more complex, regular and global. The study indicates that it is impossible to identify a single unique theory on international migration because many theories highlight the pattern and nature of movement on a global scale. It recommends that researchers should be encouraged by governments through reasonable debate to understand the complex nature of international migration so that realistic policies can be made.
