Abstract

Urban agriculture has emerged as an approach that contributes to local food security by increasing availability and accessibility of fresh and healthy produce in cities. Despite its significance as an alternative means of food production and its contribution to livelihood, urban agriculture faces challenges such as tenure insecurity and encroaching land development. Data were obtained through structured questionnaires administered to 120 respondents using purposive sampling in Runjin Sambo, Tudun Wada, Arkillah and Kwannawa. The study found that urban agriculture in the study area is affected by poor land use planning and management, tenure insecurity and rapid expansion of the built-up environment.
